Organise important documents & registrations
Start with preparing your documents, as you will be asked for these when taking the next steps.
- Prepare your documents - ‘proof of identity & address’ and a ‘National Insurance Number’
- Open a bank account
- Register with your local GP
- Register with your local library

Get access to free WiFi
Most cafes, restaurants and public spaces have free WiFi. You may need to ask for a password.

Buy a UK SIM card to avoid paying more
There are currently no roaming charges in Europe so you can use your phone for the same cost as your country of origin. However, some providers have limits and apply higher charges when you exceed your allowance.

Get access to computers and printers
- Visit your local library - to use computers free of charge and print/ photocopy for a small fee. You will need to register with them and book computers in advance.
- Visit a local internet cafe - to pay by hour for computer access, and pay by page for printing / photocopying

Get to know people and places in your area
- Visit the local shops - you can buy produce from your country of origin in speciality shops. Shopkeepers usually know a lot about the local area and may be able to answer questions you have.
- Visit the parks and community centres - enjoy the green spaces and see what the area has to offer

‘CityMapper’, ‘Google Maps’ and ‘Transport for London’ all help to work out the best routes to get you from A to B using public and other transport.

‘Google Translate’ covers all European languages, and can be used to translate text and images

Reach out for support and advice
Haringey has a fantastic support network with organisations that can help with a range of topics e.g. housing and money.
- Get in touch with Connected Communities to get started - they offer face-to-face support for people settling in the area.
